The Sound of the Earth Turning consists of improvisations with breath and voice, pain and healing, feedback and effects, and experiments with restrictions/potentials of analogue and digital experiences. This album is a study, an experiment, in sound and noise created within two weeks in 2020 between the ( ( (. full moon in Libra and the new moon in Taurus .) ) ) Starting with one blank* cassette, each consecutive noise track was recorded over the previous track, leaving traces of multiple pasts within the new noise ( (. . .) ) Through a tangle of cables, adapters, pain and magic the 4-track recordings were transferred to digital in the open-source program Audacity with little to no editing. These are DIY bedroom punk recordings, with the final tracks recorded entirely from bed during a debilitating flare up of chronic pain ( ( . . . ) ) Moments of suffering and surprise meld bursts of rage and will this ever end with untimely stretches of repose, these are experiments in tape and tongue hiss. Prescription bottle blues ( (. . .) ) the sound of/as the earth turning…

Attending to the under and unknown movements that bring about surface change, the weaves, folds and faults of this album were created within and exceeding crip rituals of ( ((. . .) improvisation and intention ( ((. . .) *Surfaces are never perfect, never smooth or silent or blank. The warbles, cracks, and pops are not unwanted disruptions or impurities to fix, but reminders of the inability to contain and be contained the horror and the beauty
The companionship, barks and snores from Oscar and Beast are a part of the sometimes sparse sometimes deluge of sound contributions. The Sound of the Earth Turning contributes to a larger and ongoing study of abolition and the end of the world as we know it )))({

Healing is transient. The process of creating is healing. The process of recording is transient.
Healing happens through the process. The process of healing exacerbates the wounds.
Listening is part of the process. Transforms and is transformed.
Feeling everything is tectonic. Healing is not imperative.
Experiment with how these tracks can heal.

The album emerged upon opening Yoko Ono's book grapefruit at random to the page with EARTH PIECE, which has the prompt: Listen to the sound of the earth turning. This album is our attempt at doing that ) })){ ( and is in the tradition of witches and healers, experimenters and failures, the mad and the hopeless and the affectable, of those who have had to and still have to do the impossible, to make a way out of no way, to find a place in no place, of those who will not, who cannot, whose shine is too loud, whose pain is too bright, whose joy is too sensuous and who is always too much.
